Climate agency of the Thuringian State Institute for Environment and Geology-

The climate agency of TLUG is using an MTP-5-HE since 2015 for
the measurement of air temperature profile on different locations in Thuringia. The main applications hereby are:

» generation of inversions statistics, vertical extension of urban heat islands » environmental sensitive traffic control in cities, atmospheric dispersion » modelling for pollutants and acoustic emission, measurement of temperature changes due to cold air streams » icing potential of buildings (height of zero degree level). For further information please have a look into the PDF file or to the Website of TLUG.

Geodetic Observatory Wettzell of the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy

At the Observatory Wettzell the MTP-5-H system was integrated into the meteorological station. The data from the vertical temperature profiles are used for the calculation of run time differences of (satellite) signals due to the „Wet Path Delays“ of the atmosphere. For further information please have a look to Website of the Observatory

Novia University of Applied Sciences, Nordic Wind Energy Center, Vaasa, Finnland

Researchers of the University in Vaasa are using the MTP-5-HE to investigate the sound propagation of wind turbines. Information on the WindCoE-project and temperature profile data can be found here: Information: www.nordisktvindenergicenter.eu/news

State Institute for the Environment Rhineland-Palatinate

The Department of Climate Change / Environmental Meteorology investigates the urban climate with the focus on air pollution control at various locations in Rhineland-Palatinate. The vertical temperature profile data of the measuring device can be found here: /https://lfu.rlp.de/fileadmin/luft/Umweltmeteorologie/radiometer_ampel.html

National Research Institute Ratibor

A MTP-5-H was set up on the roof of the weather station in Ratibor, Poland as part of a Polish-Czech research project of the Institute for Meteorology and Water Management - National Research Institute (IMGW-PIB) on air quality (monitoring and forecasting). In the region, especially in winter, there are major problems with poor air quality due to the predominant use of coal heaters. The radiometer provides important data for vertical temperature stratification in the atmosphere to better predict air pollution and thus improve air quality in the long term through countermeasures.

Metéo France / SOFOG3D project

In this project, high-resolution Large-Eddy-Simulations will be combined with ground measurements (network of weather station, remote sensing systems and drones) to understand and forecast fog events. Therefore, we will implement a MTP-5 temperature profiler in the monitoring network at the fog-rich supersite south-east of Bordeaux/France. Together with Metéo France, the Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques as well as other partners, the campaign took place from October 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020.

MicroStep-MIS / Poprad-Tatry Airport, Slovakia

We successfully installed a MTP-5 at the Poprad-Tatry International Airport. Together with MicroStep-MIS, a fog forecast project for aviation tasks will be started. The goal is to collect data in the winter season 2019/20 to improve the existing monitoring and information systems for airports.

Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI)

On the roof of the observatory Tusimice in Kadan (CZ), a MTP-5-HE was installed on Oct. 19 th 2020.

The CHMI needs high-resolution temperature profiles for e.g. ecological tasks such as air quality monitoring and forecasting. Also, an intercomparison of the data with the 80 m tower, radiosondes as well as RASS is planned.

In the future, the MTP-5 will be used as mobile measurement equipment for various sites.

State Institute for the Environment Rhineland-Palatinate

At the beginning of November 2021, the second installation of the MTP-5 at the State Office for the Environment in Rhineland-Palatinate took place.

After a short test phase in Mainz, the device will be installed on the second location in Koblenz to measure continuously vertical air temperature profiles. The aim is to correlate the obtained meteorological data with the urban air quality.

Especially in the case of temperature inversions, poor air mixing at the bottom and consequently an accumulation of pollutants and poor air quality in the city will occur. http://radiometer.bplaced.net/index.html
